We require all Cheer Board Members and Head Coaches to be certified as an AYC Cheer Coach as well CPR/First Aid and Concussion Certified.
Vice President of Cheer ~ Amy Stanko
Amy holds a Bachelor and Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology as well as several Fitness Certifications. She has over 23 years experience in the fitness field including personal training, class instruction and owning her own health club. She is currently the Manager at Just Tumble in Shelton. She grew up participating in a variety of sports and activities but it is her experience with dance team and cheer that she feels had the greatest impact on her. She comes to Shelton Youth Football & Cheer (SYF&C) after being a volunteer at Shelton Pop Warner for the last 4 seasons. She lives in Shelton with her husband Justin and their three young children. She has a football player and cheerleader in the SYF&C Program. She believes that a positive attitude and good communication are two of the most important keys to successful leadership.
Cheer Director ~
Assistant Cheer Director and D12 (7th Grade) ~ Michelle Dew
Michelle is going into her 4th season coaching for AYC. She has led her 2012 D10 team to an impressive record featuring 1st place at States, 1st Place and Grand Champions at Locals and advanced to Nationals in Florida. She and her team will move up to D12 this year. Growing up, she cheered for Pop Warner for 9 years as well as Shelton Intermediate School. She has earned her Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. In addition to required certifications Michelle is also Epi-Pen certified. Her Hobbies, other than cheerleading include scrapbooking, stamping, and crafts.
Special Advisor to Cheer ~ Christine Coffin
Christine is entering her third season as Head Cheerleading Coach of Shelton High School. In the past three years, she has led her team to three SCC coed Division Titles and two Coed division State titles. Her team has also won several local cheer competitions. Prior to taking on the Head Coaching position, Christine was Head cheer Coach at St. Joseph High School in 1996-1997. She also coached SCSU in 1997-1998. Christine graduated in 1995 from Southern Connecticut State University where she was a three year member of the Cheerleading team. She was also a 3 year staff member of the Universal Cheerleaders Association. She is currently a member of the CT High School Coaches Association. Christine is a teacher at Perry Hill School in her 17th year as a grade 6 teacher. Christine is a mother of 3 and is involved in the Shelton Youth football and cheer program with her oldest son and daughter.
D8 ~ Patti Prodan
A graduate of Central Connecticut State University, Patti has worked as a certified Dental Assistant for 17 years. She was an Assistant Coach for the Pop Warner Tiny-Mites in 2012 as well as a Volunteer for the Shelton National Little League, Daisy troop leader at ESS, Classroom volunteer and PTO member. Patti is amazing with the little ones and enjoys making cheer bows. She resides in Shelton with her husband of 22 years and their daughter Samantha who loves to cheer.
Mitey-Mites ~ Candace O'Leary
D12 (5th/6th) ~ Michelle Civale
Michelle holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and works full-time as a Finance Manager at Prudential Annuities. She was a cheerleader throughout Junior High and High School and a two-year All American Cheerleader. In 1999 she cheered at the Citrus Bowl in Florida and in 2000 cheered at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. She comes to us after coaching last season at Shelton Pop Warner. She's passionate about not only coaching cheer, but teaching teamwork and allowing the kids to develop leadership skils all while having a fun and successful season. Michelle and her husband Matt have three children, two of which are in the SYF&C program.
D13 ~ Julie Bibby
Working full-time for an OB-GYN as a certified Medical Assistant has reinforced the importance of teamwork for Julie. Her goal is to improve each child's Cheer fundamentals while building trust amongst their peers in a fun, safe environment. "If we fail, we fail as a team and if we succeed, we succeed as a team", is her motto. She lives with her family, including her daughter, son and grandson. As a family, they have been involved with cheerleading and football on all age levels since 2001. Last year, Julie's D12 Team advanced to Nationals after placing First at Regionals and second at States and Locals.
